How different the beginning to 2020 could have been! Late last year, we were expecting a PlayStation 5 reveal event and The Last of Us: Part II’s launch right around now – neither have materialised. The latter is still shrouded in mystery, while Ellie’s sophomore outing was pushed back to 29th May, as developer Naughty Dog said that it refused to “compromise our vision”.
But the title was originally due out on 21st February, meaning that in an alternate timeline we would have reviewed the game already – and you’d be playing it right now. The delay’s not the end of the world, of course: it should result in a better experience overall, and given the astronomical expectations for this sequel, Sony needs to ensure that it’s polished to perfection.
So, you’ll need to wait a bit longer for the continuation of one of PlayStation’s best plots. Just know that somewhere in a different dimension, your other self is already getting stuck in.

You tryin to ruin some days huh?
My alternate timeline self has told me it's incredible. Changed his life.
I cut his throat for rubbing it in and now I suddenly feel a lot stronger - plus I suddenly know kung fu....
Who's The One now?!
No sense in complaining - the game can only get better through this delay. I'd rather have TLOU2 knock my socks off on day one than lament my lost $60 for months waiting for a patch.
"...we were expecting a PlayStation 5 reveal event and The Last of Us: Part II’s launch right around now – neither have materialised. The latter is still shrouded in mystery,..."
I am being a bit pedantic, but shouldn't it be former rather than latter?
Now back to the topic at hand. I still have plenty to play in my backlog before TLOU2, but I can understand the frustration. Quite a few games have been moved so far this year, such as Cyberpunk and FF7. It is nice to know that TLOU2 is being polished, just a pity that the beginning of 2020 has seemingly became empty.
Well, at least I can play some of my backlog games, just finished spider-man dlc, still thinking my next game 😃
I am playing TLoU2...what timeline are you in? I'm watching Dark on Netflix, it's all very confusing.
This alternative timeline might be playing the game already but we will have the superior version and it all it costs is a bit of patience. I know which timeline I prefer.
Are you in the Kelvin timeline?
@MS7000 Damn, I was just about to comment that it should be "former", not "latter". 😂
No matter. Im still waiting for the ps5 before playing any 2020 release games. My backlog will keep me busy till then.
I'm happy to wait; too busy dying in Hunt Showdown
11 days until FFVIIR in that timeline too...
How depressing.
Slow news day huh?
In An Alternate Timeline This Would Have Been The Sequel To That Jak And Daxter Game Naughty Dog Scraped
wish this was out dying to play this game!
While I’m gutted I’m not playing the game right now, I appreciate naughty dog taking the extra time to make it the best experience from day one! In the meantime while I’m counting down the days, I’m playing through the last of us yet again 😉
lazy article push square
Huh, so this is news? Really?
C'mon, PushSquare. This is not "news".
This is pointing out the obvious, disguised (and not even well) as actual content.
This site for sure puts out some nice work, but filler as seen here just dilutes that (in my opinion).
Surely there are better ways to pad out a slow day? Right?
Meh, ND games are nearly always delayed, I don't know why they give a date. I want more info on the factions mp stand alone, it's already guaranteed I'm gonna be having this.
You can also do what Respawn did and just release it buggy for the holidays. And patch it later nah ill rather see the best possible version of the game. Naughty Dog take your time and just release the best version. 😉👍
In an alternate timeline, I'd be a billionaire and own Sony and Microsoft
May is better for me because I’m in the middle of selling my house and moving. Looking forward to having a decent release to play during the sunny months.
Fortunately Doom Eternal is set to release in march to fill the void. Im not complaining at all by the way because sometimes a year passes with zero games I buy day one and this year there are a few I'm really interested in:
Doom Eternal
The Last of Us 2
Cyberpunk
Dying Light 2
Even in the very unlikely event that half of them turn out to be stinkers It's still a great year. This line up is basically why I found it worthwhile to invest in a Pro on black friday. Even this late in the PS4 lifecycle.
I know it's a slow news month but too many of these articles lately are just pointless. Common guys, you don't HAVE to post 5 times a day if there's nothing to report...
In any possible timeline imaginable i still wouldnt be playing this game so it makes no odds to me.
Guess which one is me right now...
In an alternate universe, I'd be gender fluid and really looking forward to this game. Alas, I live in this universe where I'm solidly heterosexual and therefore have lost all interest in the game. I'll just go back and replay The Last of Us and even Left Behind where it wasn't shoved down my throat.
Whatever happened to just playing a freaking game without social agendas ?
@BradT Hate to burst your bubble, but Ellie's gay in that game too. If you want "games without agendas" then go play games with no plot like DOOM (1993).
@BradT Go play Duke Nukem sounds more like your thing.
@BradT so in order to "not shove it down your throat" they (gay people in a video game) simply cant exsist??? Because thats all it seems theyre doing. Them simply EXISTING is "forcing" it on you.
And by the way, being hetero has NOTHING to do with it, youre just an ignorant ***hole making us real men look bad.
Looks like they 'leaked' the social aspect of the game early
